Right now the front runners are lovely Lucerne:
and picturesque Peru:
To recap for those of you who missed last week, are new to our site, or are just having a major brain lapse: we're asking people to suggest destinations--anywhere in the world--for our next big trip. After a few weeks of open nominations we'll let you vote among the five most popular suggestions. For more details see the Week One post.
Don't be afraid to nominate more (and more and more) destinations even if you've already made a suggestion. The more input the better!
Below is a current leaderboard of suggested destinations along with a map for those who are more into visuals (or just maps in general, like Patrick).

Antartica sounds wonderful! I'd like to suggest that as well as Nepal. Too beautiful landscapes!
ReplyDeleteBariloche and Patagonia!
ReplyDeletedefinitely ireland - specifically the west - the isles, or the burren or the cliffs! Plus it's an easy trip from Boston.
ReplyDeleteAnd what about Alaska?
There is a great deal to Peru right now -- $309 round-trip WITH taxes included -- from LA to Lima on Continental. Maybe that'll help sway your decision!
ReplyDeleteOne of my co-workers is in Peru right now, as we speak. She loves it. My niece just came back from China, including a trek along the Great Wall.
ReplyDeleteHey, I know! Have you thought of a trip to Vancouver? We just hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics, and everyone says how beautiful it is here. :-)
Tanzania would be my pick
ReplyDeleteBruges, can't go wrong with waffles, mussels, beer and chocolate!
ReplyDeleteSlovenia especially Lake Bled.
ReplyDeletei have to say i'm partial to antartica. it's melting and i've always wanted to go there. the photographs my friends have from being there are stunning. the stark beauty is like nothing else and it's apt to disappear if the planet keeps warming up. i know it's cold, but it's amazing! c'mon katrina, i know you want to snuggle some penguins!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to suggest Ecuador. Palabra.
ReplyDeleteI'll third China and second Bariloche and Riga.
ReplyDeleteI vote for Lucerne. I was there for a good solid 12 hours back in 1996 and loved it! Seriously, it is beautiful, the people were so nice and I had the best cup of hot chocolate (drinking chocolate, if you prefer) in my life. Ever. And it was inexpensive...take that LA Burdick.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can live vicariously though you guys because I know you'll do a great job of exploring all I wasn't able to in that 12 hours.
I second Slovenia. T+L just ranked it the "Next Great Value Destination" highlighting the vineyards, lakeside villages, historic architecture, etc. at a sliver of the cost of Austria, Italy, Hungary, etc. It says that spring is the optimal time for values. They recommend the Alpine town of Bled where there is a family run coutryside inn called Lectar (lectar.com). I'd go myself if I could.
